The tax accountant is responsible for performing complex corporate tax preparation, tax research and tax planning with minimal supervision. This position will work with and communicate directly with owners, partners and accounting department personnel to research, recommend and resolve tax matters.
This position applies principals of accounting to prepare financial reports and necessary information for preparation of Accounting Firm review in a fast-paced, high pressure environment. Prepares information necessary for Accounting firm review and preparation of federal, state, or local tax returns of individual, business establishment, or other organization by performing the following duties:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include:
Compiles and analyzes Accountant work papers for review by tax return preparer.Prepare entries to accounts, such as general ledger accounts, documenting business transactions.
Recognizes, anticipates and resolves tax issues; makes recommendations to owners and manager.Then reports and communicates all resolutions and research to all other accounting staff involved to ensure consistent of accounting practices.
Prepares various state Annual Reports, Biennial Statements, tax filings, and request for information forms.
May verify, allocate, and post details of business transactions to subsidiary accounts in journals or computer files from documents such as sales slips, invoices, receipts, check stubs, and computer printouts.
Summarizes details in separate ledgers or computer files and transfers data to general ledger.
Handles and ensures documentation is input/scanned into Document Repository and Accounting Systems as procedures require.
Analyzes financial information detailing assets, liabilities, and capital, and prepares balance sheet, profit and loss statement, and other reports to summarize current and projected company financial position.Financial statements prepared as required.
Compiles and analyzes financial information to prepare entries to accounts, such as general ledger accounts, documenting business transactions.
Projects taxable income for all Widewaters companies, trusts and individuals (excluding Widewaters Construction, Inc. and Pyramid Network Services, LLC).
Examines accounts and records and computes taxes owed according to prescribed rates, laws, and regulations.Files all necessary tax forms as required.
Ensures that organization complies with periodic tax payment, information reporting, and other taxing authority requirements (i.e. NYS biennial Statements, various State annual reports).
Devises and installs tax record systems.
Handles all sales tax research.
Reviews and/or audits the work of peers in the department to ensure the IRS code is followed and works with peers to change processes as necessary.
Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops or classes, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks and participating in professional societies.
Contributes to accounting team effort by accomplishing related results as needed, including special projects.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
A Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting is preferred. 6 months to 2 years of prior experience preferred. Prior Real Estate or commercial property experience also preferred.
